Hardwood Floor Installation: What to Expect Before, During, and After

Installing hardwood floors is a big investment—and a big upgrade. At Brothers Flooring, we want homeowners in the Denver Metro area to feel confident before, during, and after their installation.

Here’s what you need to know:

Before Installation: How to Prepare

1. Acclimation

Hardwood flooring must sit in your home for 5–10 days before installation. This allows the wood to adjust to your home’s temperature and humidity.

2. Subfloor Inspection

Our team will assess the subfloor to make sure it’s level, clean, and dry. We check moisture levels to prevent issues like cupping or gapping.

3. Clear the Space

All furniture, appliances, and personal items should be removed from the area. We’ll also remove existing flooring if needed (carpet, tile, etc.).

During Installation: What We Do

1. Layout Planning

We determine the best plank direction and pattern, including options like 45-degree angles or custom inlays.

2. Moisture Barrier & Underlayment

Depending on your home, we may install a moisture barrier or use glue-assist/nail-down techniques for solid or engineered wood.

3. Clean Installation

Our in-house team ensures every board is installed tightly, evenly, and with attention to detail—from flush mount vents to wall pull-ups.

After Installation: What to Expect

  • Final Walkthrough: We inspect the entire area with you to ensure quality and satisfaction.
  • Cleanup: We vacuum, sweep, and haul away debris.
  • Care Tips: Keep humidity between 35–55%, use furniture pads, and avoid wet mops.
