Thornton sits along the northern edge of the Denver metro at elevations between 5,200 and 5,500 feet, spanning a wide stretch of Adams County from the older established neighborhoods near 84th Avenue to the newer residential communities approaching 144th Avenue and beyond. Brothers Flooring has served Thornton homeowners for over 30 years, and our NWFA-certified crew understands the specific climate challenges, housing stock variety, and subfloor conditions that define hardwood flooring work in this part of Colorado.
Thornton is one of the fastest-growing cities in Colorado, which means its housing spans an unusually wide range of construction eras, from post-war brick ranches and 1970s split-levels in the southern portions of the city to large modern two-story homes in planned communities north of 120th Avenue. Brothers Flooring has worked across all of these neighborhoods and brings specific knowledge of each to every project. We are NWFA-certified, and every job is performed entirely by experienced, insured professionals.
At over 5,200 feet, Thornton’s dry winters and intense summer sun create conditions that stress hardwood flooring in ways that homeowners from out of state often do not anticipate. Colorado’s relative humidity can drop below 20% during winter months, causing solid hardwood to lose moisture and shrink significantly. This is not a product defect. It is a physical response to the environment, and proper installation technique is what prevents it from becoming a problem.
At Thornton’s elevation, lower atmospheric pressure affects how moisture moves in and out of wood fibers, which means acclimation periods here are longer than they would be at sea level. We bring material to your home and let it sit under your actual living conditions before the first board is installed. We moisture-test both the subfloor and the wood itself, and we will not begin work until readings confirm the material is ready for your specific environment.
Whether you are in an older home near Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center or a newer build in North Creek Farms, Brothers Flooring offers the full range of hardwood services Thornton homes need.
We install solid and engineered hardwood using nail-down, glue-down, or floating methods depending on your subfloor type. In Thornton’s slab foundation homes, which make up a significant portion of the newer construction north of 120th Avenue, engineered hardwood is typically the stronger choice because it handles the moisture that can migrate through concrete without the movement problems solid wood can develop. In older above-grade wood subfloor homes, solid hardwood remains an excellent option with decades of refinishing potential.
Thornton’s intense UV exposure and dry forced-air heating cause hardwood to fade and lose its protective finish faster than in more moderate climates. Our 97% dust-free sanding system means your household can remain functional throughout the refinishing process. We use water-based finishes that resist the yellowing that occurs with oil-based products under Colorado’s intense sun, and they hold up well through the expansion and contraction cycles of the seasons.
Gapping is one of the most common complaints from Thornton homeowners after winter, particularly in homes that run heating systems heavily without a whole-home humidifier. We assess the root cause before recommending repair, because gapping from seasonal moisture loss is different from gapping caused by improper installation or subfloor movement, and each requires a different solution.
Dimensionally stable species perform best in Thornton’s high-altitude dry climate. White oak is our most recommended species for its stability, design versatility, and ability to accept a wide range of stains. Hickory is the hardest and most dimensionally stable domestic species, making it an excellent choice for active households in Thornton’s newer construction, where large open floor plans and heavy foot traffic are common. We help every homeowner evaluate options based on their specific home conditions, not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
Brothers Flooring works throughout Thornton, including Thorncreek, Riverdale Farms, North Creek Farms, Eastlake, Hunter’s Glen, Heritage Todd Creek, Springvale, and the established neighborhoods in the southern portions of the city near Colorado Boulevard. We serve homeowners from Thornton’s older post-war bungalows to the large newer custom homes being built in the northern areas of the city near 168th Avenue.
Thornton’s housing spans from small post-war wood-frame homes built in the 1950s near the city’s original commercial core to brick ranches from the 1960s and 1970s, split-level homes from the 1980s, and a large inventory of two-story slab-foundation homes built since 2000. Older homes frequently have original pine or fir subfloors that require leveling and moisture treatment. Newer slab homes require careful vapor barrier work before any hardwood installation. We have the expertise to handle every type correctly.
We hold an A+ BBB rating, have won the Best in Safety award three times, and are recommended by Tom Martino. We never require an upfront deposit, and never move to the next job until yours is complete and you are satisfied. Call us to schedule a free in-home consultation for your Thornton home.

“Wow- Brothers Flooring did incredible work on our 1920s house with a mid-century addition. We pulled up some terribly installed vinyl, planning to install laminate instead, and were thrilled to discover original hardwood underneath! However, several wood flooring specialty contractors declined to take on the job and encouraged us to start over with all new wood on top of the original planks, mostly due to damage to some of the unusual boards (2" wide by 1/2" thick tongue-in-groove red oak vs. modern 2.25" wide by 3/4" thick boards), some very weird and uneven subfloor from who knows when, and our desire to extend the wood flooring to include the kitchen area, which previously had stick-on tile with crappy vinyl on top. Enter Brothers Flooring, my last hope to keep the original wood: they arrived on-time for the estimate and talked through our options for addressing the complex subfloor situation, damaged portions of unusual boards, and our hope to extend the wood to include the open kitchen area. They were quickly able to special-order the uncommon wood and were clear in communicating the timeline, allowing us to plan around when work would begin. Chad did all of the work on our floors, and I see why he's the go-to guy for such complex jobs! He has been doing this for almost as long as I've been alive, and the experience shows in how he was able to make our uneven subfloor meld with the existing floor, braid in new boards to replace damaged portions, work with the addition, and carefully sand down the thin original wood to give it a beautiful finish. Chad was clear in communicating the plan, gave ample updates on progress, and answered the many questions I had throughout the process. Our house feels so much brighter, warmer, and we are so glad we were able to keep the original hardwood floors! I highly recommend Brothers Flooring for any project you have.”

The entire experience, from initial consultation to final inspection, was exceptional, and the results have exceeded our expectations! A huge part of this success is thanks to our technician, Chad! Chad's attention to detail was truly remarkable. He was incredibly meticulous and thorough, demonstrating a clear commitment to quality by taking great care throughout the entire installation process. This level of precision gave us complete confidence in the work being done. Beyond his technical skill, Chad was a pleasure to work with. He was professional, personable, and made the whole process stress-free. He was easy to work with and patiently addressed all our questions and concerns, ensuring we understood every step. The finished floors are absolutely beautiful and instantly elevated the look and feel of our home! We highly recommend Brothers Flooring and specifically commend Chad for his outstanding service.”
“Brothers did a fabulous job! Marco was great to work with during the process. He answered all my questions, no matter how many, and kept me informed on the progress, start and finish times every day. My new floor is beautiful and being laced into the existing kitchen/dining and entry hardwoods makes them look like one floor. Every one I worked with from estimate to completion was wonderful. I would recommend Brothers to anyone and can’t wait to show off my new floor to family and friends.”
“We just had Brothers Flooring add hardwood flooring into our home. I highly recommend them. The whole experience from a competitive quote, quality materials, to outstanding workmanship. We are so happy with the outcome. I also don’t think I’ve seen anyone work harder than Anthony did throughout the entire job! Each day he arrived punctually, informed me about the jobs he would be completing that day, and time frames needed for drying etc. Thank you so much!”
“We had Brothers Flooring install hardwood on our main floor and then had them come back and install hardwood on our stairs and LVP on our second floor. We absolutely love our new floors! Marco went above and beyond! He was so professional, and we loved working with him. We couldn’t be happier, and would highly recommend them.”
